Joachim Ostermann

PhD, OFM

Joachim Ostermann, OFM, earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Munich and then became a postdoctoral fellow at the Sloan Kettering Institute in New York City. After several years as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Vanderbilt University, he continued his career in research-management positions in highly innovative biotechnology companies specializing in proteomics techniques and immunotherapies. In one of these companies, Dr. Ostermann was considered co-founder. However, after his exit from this business, he entered the Order of Friars Minor, the Franciscans. He became Father Joachim Ostermann, but entering religious life did not diminish his interest in science. Now he studies philosophical questions at the interface of science and religion, particularly with regards to understanding the nature of the human person.
